英文摘要 | Shakespeare's Anthony in <<Anthony and Cleopatra>> speaks and behaves both masculinely and femininely due to his being effeminized by Cleopatra's feminine Oriental Other, whose negative, erotic, lustful and feminine temperament is sharply contrasted with Roman spirit of Octavius Caesar, a representative of the reasonable, masculine Eurocentric patriarchal system. Under Cleopatra's influence, Anthony's discourse and behavior, opposite to the Eurocentric Roman spirit, are so obviously androgynous that at the end his death is unavoidable, for the Eurocentric patriarchal order must be maintained. To investigate Anthony's androgyny, this paper wi1l mainly explore Anthony's androgynous characteristics by analyzing his relationship with Cleopatra and Octavius Caesar. |
