| 英文摘要 | Global challenges such as climate change, ecological destruction, and resource depletion pose grave threats to human society. Technological innovation plays a crucial role in environmental protection. Dashes, as a common punctuation mark in environmental science and technology texts, serve multiple functions such as emphasis, explanation, and exemplification, making their accurate conveyance in English-to-Chinese translation particularly important. This study delves into the analysis of environmental science and technology texts from the bilingual magazine English Digest published in the first six issues of 2022. It investigates the primary approaches to translating dashes in English-to-Chinese context, including equivalent transplantation, transformation compensation, deletion compensation, and addition and rewriting. Additionally, the study identifies instances of dash misrenderings in the magazine, mainly related to errors in logical expression, weakened tone, verbose expression, and unnatural language usage. In translating environmental science and technology themes, translators are advised to deeply ponder and leverage the functionality of dashes, comprehend semantic logic accurately, be aware of the disparities between Chinese and English expressions, and gain in-depth knowledge of the relevant specialized fields to enhance the quality of translations and ensure precise conveyance of environmental science and technology concepts and principles, ultimately facilitating the dissemination and application of environmental science and technology. |
