中文摘要 | 本篇研究的主要目的在探討「專業英文(English for Specific Purposes)」教學模式的特性及其背景原理,並就此課程的需求分析及課程評鑑作一討論。本文並針對國內的技職教育體系,析論如何運用此教學模式於未來的技職英語教學中。 研究發現「專業英文」的教學模式是以學習為中心,基於語言溝通原則,強調學習第二語言的過程。此方法不僅教導學生一般的語言技能,並且加強在其專業領域中運用英語溝通的能力。然而與一般英語教師相較,「專業英文」的教師,需要更多經驗及努力,以 及額外的師資訓練。職是之故,「專業英文」的教師,會面臨許多的挑戰,並應再思考其在教室中所扮演的角色。在實際教學中,語言教師也許可考慮與專業老師配合協同教學;同時對於教材和教法的選用,也應適切且具有彈性。 在我們正邁向廿一世紀,並希望發展成為亞太營運中心之時,技職教育實佔有舉足輕 重之地位。為迎合未來需要,加強學生專業技能和外語能力,格外顯得重要。因此,將「專業英文」的教學模式運用於技職英語教學中,將符合學生及社會的未來需求'且此模式能補救傳統「考試領導教學」的不足,而使得英語教學更有效,更有意義,更有趣。 |
英文摘要 | The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of “English for Specific Purposes (ESP),” its theoretical background in language and learning, and needs analysis and program evaluation. Additionally, teaching materials, teaching methods, and teaching equipment of the ESP classroom will be discussed regarding how these can be applied in technical and vocational English Instruction. The writer found that ESP, using the communication-based and learning-centered approach, focuses on the language learning process in second language classroom which not only gives students general English skills but also enhances their English in specific subject areas. ESP provides students with language and language use in their specific fields based on communicative tasks. However, the ESP teacher requires more experience, additional training, and extra effort compared with the teachers of General English. Therefore, ESP teachers face many challenges and should possibly rethink their roles in the dynamic ESP classroom. Subject teachers and language teachers might consider team teaching in the ESP classroom. Meanwhile, the adoption of teaching materials and approaches should be appropriate and flexible. In the fast approaching twenty-first century, Taiwan hopes to become the Asia-Pacific Operating Center for the country's future development. It is essential for technical and vocational school systems to enhance students' expertise and increase their competence in foreign languages for future needs. Thus, incorporating ESP into technical and vocational institutes' English instruction will meet students' future needs and their societal demands. Furthermore, it is believed that ESP can compensate for traditional teaching and test-driven instruction. ESP promises that English teaching and learning can be made more effective, meaningful, and enjoyable. |
