中文摘要 | 民國八十三年,本校奉准升格改制為國立臺北技術學院,招收二年制及四年制學 生,修業期滿者,頒贈學士學位。 本校鑑於一般工科學生英文基礎較為薄弱,於二年制一年級及四年制三年級上、下學期 各增加1學分2小時之「英文閱讀與寫作」為校訂必修課程,以培養學生英文寫作能力。 聽、說、讀、寫為語言學習之基本技能,缺一不可。然而,限於教學時數、班級人數及 教師工作負擔,國內各級學校英文教學寫作訓練常被忽略。寫作為一思考過程,為一有組織 的心智活動,而非僅將正確之符號,正確字眼或適當之文法規則,填於紙上即可之活動。我 國一般學生學習英文時間短、接觸少、儲備之字彙與語法知識不足,且缺乏英文表達之訓練 ,尤以高職及工專學生為甚。 為協助學生把握在校練習以英文適當表達之機會,妥善規劃英文閱讀與寫作課程實為首 務之急。本文探討英文寫作之內涵與教學方法,以期設計最適合本校學生之寫作課程,以收 教學實效。 |
英文摘要 | In August, 1994, National Taipei Institute of Technology (NTIT) was upgraded to a four -year college under the auspices of the Ministry of Education , and was authorized to grant Bachelor's degrees to students at the four-year program and the two-year transition program upon completion of the course reauirements. Although listening, speaking, reading, and writing have long been regarded as integral components in learning a language, writing has long been neglected across all levels of schools here in Taiwan due to the time constraint, large class size, and the teacher's heavy wrokload. In view of the fact that most engineering majors are inadequately prepared as far as English is concerned, the faculty at NTIT allocated 2 credits (among the 10 credits of school-regulated basic required courses) for the Reading and Writing course, with special stress on furnishing students with essential writing competence. It is hoped that students will be able to express themselves clearly and properly in written English should the need arise in their future careers. As writing is considered a thinking process, an organized , intelligent activity, it is not just an exercise in covering the paper with correct signs, choosing the correct words, or applying the proper grammar rules (Oster, 1985). It is a continuous attempt to discover what one wants to say. Owing to the insufficient experience students have had in learning English, students in the R.O.C., and those studying at junior colleges in particular, have not been equipped with adequate vocabulary and syntax to apply to writing. What is worse, they have not been given the opportunity to write! Therefore, to make the best of the chance to compensate for what students should have learned, instructors at NTIT have lauched substantial time and energy seeking for a better writing course for the students. This study aims at locating writing pedagogy as well as practical methods which can be applied to designing a Reading and Writing course so that it will be most rewarding teaching and learning experience for the instructors and the students. |
