中文摘要 | 本為了提高電腦的計算及處理大量資料的速度,精簡指令集電腦的技術已成為中央處理單元設計的主流。精簡指令集電腦之所以能有高的佳能,此乃藉由一個有效率的指令管線,及本身精簡的硬體結構,以配合最佳編譯器及適當的作業系統來達成目標。除此之外,快取記憶體系統也扮演相當重要的角色。 快取記憶體系統中的快取大小與回填區段大小是影響精簡指令集電腦記憶體階層頻寬和存取時間的重要因素之一。我們利用一些程式行為不同的指標程式來對不同大小的指令/資料快取及回填區段進行模擬測試,模擬的結果指出;(1) 指令快取的大小對系統性能的影響比資料快取大,在佳能與成本效率的考量之下,大容量的指令快取搭配小容量的資料快取,是較佳的選擇。(2) 回填區段雖降低快取記憶體的存取失誤率,但當其容量太大時,失誤率反因回填區段的使用率降低而導致它的上升。 |
英文摘要 | To improve the processing speed and to enhance the computational capability of a computer, the technology of the reduced instruction-set computer (RISC) has become mainstream in the design of central processing unit (CPU). In short, RISC becomes a high performance machine due to efficient instruction pipeline, and a reduced architecture which is supported by optimizing compiler and appropriate operation system. In the mean time, the cache memory system also plays an important role in this regard. The sizes of cache and refill block are key influencing factors to the bandwidth of the memory hierarchy and memory access time for RISC. We have employed a couple of benchmarks with different behaviors to simulate the various sizes of cache and refill block. The simulation results reveal: (1) The size of instruction-cache (I-cache) is superior than the size of data-cache (D-cache) in affecting the system performances. In pursuing cost-effective performances, It will be a better alternative to combine larger I-cache with smaller D-cache. (2) Miss-ratio of the cache memory will decline when there are refill blocks. However, as sizes of refill blocks grow to be too large, the miss-ratio might contrarily increase due to decreased utilization rate of refill blocks. |
