英文摘要 | Two months old seedlings of Taiwania inoculated either with Glomus mosseae or Acaulospora laevis or a mixture of both mycorrhizal fungus spp. were cultivated in greenhouse for four months. They were, then, transplanted to soils of different moisture contents of 20%, 40% or 60% and allow to grow for 18 months. The growth responses of these seedlings under different water regimes were observed. Resluts showed there is no significant difference in both the growth and the rate of infection among seedlings inoculted with different mycorrhizal fungi. When subjected to different soil water regimes the growth of the controlled ones (i.e. seedlings without mycorrhizal inoculation), however, was inhibited when they were maintained in soil of 20% and 40% of water contents. The growth of all inoculated seedlings grown in soil of 20% water content was about the same as the controls maintained at 60% of soil water regime; and, thus, demonstrated that, under water stress, inoculation could sustain the regular growth of Taiwania seedlings. Low soil water conten of 20% could result in significant decrease of infection rate; and, likewise, similar inhibition effects has also been found when inoculated seedlings were subjected to higher soil water regime of 60%. The inhibition effects of the former, however, is greater than the later. Under soil water stress condition, seedlings inoculated with G. mosseae performed better than those inoculated with A. laevis. The performance of seedlings inoculated whith mixture of both fungi spp. lies between that of seedlings which are inoculated with respective fungus alone. These results suggested that, when associated with host plants, different mycorrhizal fungi may function differently and that when using mycorrhizal inoculation to enhance the host plants' tolerance/resistance to the sitese of water stress selection of proper fungus for inoculation is critical to the success of such afforestation/ reforestation program. |
