英文摘要 | BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The factors that affect loudness discomfort level (LDL) and auditory dynamic range (DR) are not very clear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of auditory thresholds and clinical factors on the LDL and auditory DR in Mandarin-speaking subjects. RESEARCH DESIGN: The effects of age, gender, pure tone average (PTA), speech reception threshold (SRT), coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease (CKD) on the LDL and auditory DR were checked. STUDY SAMPLE: The data of audiometry and medical diseases of 126 Mandarin-speaking Taiwanese were selected randomly from out-patient department. RESULTS: SRT, but not PTA, CAD, HTN, DM, hyperlipidemia, or CKD, had positive association with LDL. Male subjects had significantly higher LDL than female subjects, especially in the left ear. Furthermore, SRT, but not PTA or common systemic diseases, had significant negative association with auditory DR in each ear. Males had wider auditory DR than females did, especially in the left ear. CONCLUSIONS: SRT had positive association with LDL, but had negative association with auditory DR in Mandarin-speaking Taiwanese. Males had higher LDL and auditory DR. However, PTA and common systemic diseases had no association with LDL or auditory DR. |
