中文摘要 | 本研究檢視台灣大學生英文單字量擴充的困境。研究內容包括針對加強單字記憶技巧的一般課室指導及課後輔導。本質性研究蒐集的資料包含:四次小考成績、默書、朗讀、出席狀況、回饋單、及教師教學日誌等。研究結果顯示關於單字量的增加並未獲得明顯改善。很多學生承認他們並未認真上課,而是將大部分的時間花在與上課無關的事物。然而他們極贊同通曉發音規則將有助於記得單字的拼寫。研究結果亦顯示積極的學習態度似乎不見得獲得理想的學習成效,因為不同程度的學生,真有不同的字彙能力。亦即程度會影響字彙的學習。雖然發音課是英語學習者的基本課程,研究顯示許多大學生仍缺乏發音規則的認知。因此,加強單字記憶的技巧其重要性值得各個程度大學生的注意。有效的發音及單字教學法值得做更進一步的研究。 |
英文摘要 | This study examines the difficulties that Taiwanese college students have with regard to English vocabulary development. The program that was implemented to do this consisted of regular classroom instruction, complemented with after class tutoring which was devoted to reviewing and reinforcing the skills of vocabulary words memorization. A qualitative research method was used to collect data from multiple sources: scores of tests which contained four quizzes and text memorization and reading aloud, records of students7 attendance, feedback sheets, and a reflective journal. The findings revealed that students did not make noticeable improvement in their vocabulary word banks. Many students admitted that they did not spend time on their study but were distracted by what could only be called irrelevant trivia. However, they positively agreed that memorizing spelling became easier if they knew the rules of pronunciation. The study also indicated that positive learning attitudes did not necessarily correspond to satisfactory learning outcomes because students with different language skill levels also possessed a variety of skills concerning overall vocabulary competency. This indicates that many EFL college learners are still not aware of the rules of pronunciation although pronunciation is a very basic lesson for beginning learners to engage in. This in turn draws attention to the importance of stressing the skills of vocabulary memorization to EFL college students at all learning levels. It is suggested that effective pronunciation and vocabulary instruction be worthy of further investigation. |
