中文摘要 | 眾多語言學習者都曾有過令人感到挫折的經驗:一旦訓練停頓,他們就會漸漸忘掉他們曾學過的東西。語言遺忘的現象不僅發生在第二語言的學習者身上,即第一語言的使用者也可能在某些因素的影響下,而逐漸喪失其第一語言的使用能力。最常見的例子為移民的母語被新居住地的語言取代。然而,原地居民也可能會轉換使用新來的強勢語言而漸失去使用母語的能力。因語言為社會互動的工具,如果得不到練習與使用的環境,就難以保持。本文從社會與心理的觀點來探討造成語言遺忘之因素,研究的焦點包括第一語言和第二語言,並及於個人或整個群體。 |
英文摘要 | Many second/foreign language learners have experienced frustration from gradually forgetting what they have learned once they discontinue training programs and can not find opportunities to use the language in their daily lives. The phenomenon of language loss, or attrition, occurs not only in the second language learners. People who move to a new language community may lose skills in their first language. In some cases, even in their native land, people’s first language may be replaced by a competing language. Language, as a means of social interaction, becomes surprisingly vulnerable in the absence of a supportive environment. The purpose of this paper is to investigate, from a social psychological point of view, the factors that lead to language skill attrition. The discussion will cover both first language and second language loss, including both individuals and community as a whole. |
