英文摘要 | The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the use of Web-based learning through peers' interaction. By monitoring students' language use in retelling story to their peers, we examine how the students from Taiwan and Japan negotiate meaning and construct knowledge in a virtual online community. The interactive and functional features of learner discourse in synchronous and asynchronous communication modes are discussed, respectively. The findings show that web-based activities provide students control of and responsibility for their own learning. Meanwhile computer-assisted classroom discussion affords them opportunities to produce comprehensible output by engaging in self-generated, personally relevant communication involving a wide range of moves, functions, and meanings that may be facilitative in the development of communicative competence and overall language proficiency. |
