英文摘要 | When philosophers of education encounter the question, “Why should I have to be educated?” or “Why should I go to school?” they may not be able to answer with concrete evidence or definite justification. What are they doing? When Wittgenstein considered moral judgements of absolute value, he thought that there is no justification can be found. Though these statements cannot be verified and thus, meaningless, they are expressions of our views of life, inclinations, dispositions, even view of God. He would respect all ethical statements, and would never ridicule them. What people in ethical or moral field do is persuasion. Accordingly, to provide a general reason to students for being educated would be the same as asking people to be moral without strong evidence to back up. If we agree with this point, there will not be any theoretical conflict between viewpoints expressed in R. S. Peters' article titled “The Justification of Education” and those in E. P. Brandon's article “The Unjustifiability of Education”. |
