英文摘要 | The effect of amorphous silica powder on the sintering behavior of carbonyl iron powder was investigated. An increase of 5-6% in the final sintered density was obtained in the 0.5wt% silica-containing compacts compared to those of pure iron when the sintering was carried out in hydrogen at 1200 ℃ for 1 hour. Electron probe micro-analysis showed that silica is reduced. The reduced Si is dissolved into the iron matrix and the diffusion rate of iron is increased. Crystallization and coarsening of the dispersed amorphous silica were observed during sintering and the morphology of iron powders was affected. Dilatometry and microstructure analyses indicated that silica enhances the sintering of carbonyl iron compacts by impeding the early stage sintering, delaying the α→γ phase transformation, and enhancing the diffusion rate in the γ phase. |
