英文摘要 | Forty-one Muscovy drakes were divided into 5 batches. Five to eight female kaiya ducks were artificially inseminated with semen from each Muscovy drake to produce mule ducks. Day-old mule ducks were punched on their web so that their sire and dam could be identified. After 10 weeks of age, mule ducks were force-fed twice a day for 15 or 20 days. The average liver weight and body weight gain were 446 g and 1,620 g, respectively. The weight of fatty liver accounted for 9.8% of body weight. The ratio of feed intake to fatty liver produced was 27.2. During the force-feeding period, the average mortality reached 18.9%. A significant difference was observed in weight of fatty liver between sexes. Usually, male mules produce heavier fatty liver than females because the males have a larger body size. A comparison was made between the force-feeding programs of the period of 20 and 15 days﹒ The former resulted in a heavier fatty liver with higher mortality. Thus, 15 days of force-feeding were optimal for ducks to produce fatty livers. Their sires notably affected the weights of fatty liver produced by the mules. Therefore, selection of the Muscovy drake with heavy fatty liver could improve the fatty liver weight of its offspring, mule ducks. |
