英文摘要 | Two hypabyssal micro-gabbro intrusions in basalt at the Tungchi Islet of the Penghu Islands were studied with respect to their comb layering and preferred orientation. Only outcrop 1 micro-gabbro exhibits a comb layering at 20 cm away from the micro-gabbro/basalt contact, in which the elongate, curved and branching crystals of plagioclase and pyroxene minerals were formed via a uncleation/growth process under a moderate degree of supercooling. The pyroxene- and the plagioclase-enriched individual layers were arranged in an alternating sequence in the comb layering. The plagioclases at outcrop 1 were preferentially crystallized in a direction perpendicular to the isotherms, while at outcrop 2, they were arranged preferentially parallel to the isotherms. The distinct difference in the preferred orientation of the plagioclase crystals probably reflects that the two micro-gabbros was subjected to different degrees, moderate at outcrop 1 while negligible at outcrop 2, of supercooling at the time of intrusion. |
