英文摘要 | This paper presents the independent evaluation of the five English Conversation classes designed with a task-based, performance-testing approach that emphasizes the integration of instruction and assessment. The content of instruction is in these alternative oral assessment activities. Five classes included three non-English-majors and two English-majors. Each class has average fifty students. Data were collected in three sessions: 1) the end of the first semester (N=240), 2) the end of the second semester (N=238), and 3) four months after the end of the school year (N=80). The rationale for carrying out the third follow-up data collection four months after the end of the English Conversation course is to investigate students' feedback when there is no there is no threat from the final course grading and the teacher's influence. The results show these educational outcomes of improved oral skills among students, active student participation, learning by speaking, and a more relaxed learning environment. Descriptive data on what students perceived they had learned and the techniques that work well for them were presented as well. Every student should have equal rights to practice speaking and give a short (a few minutes) presentation in class and each one of them can be actively involved in preparing for the speaking on the platform. |
