英文摘要 | Alfred North Whitehead, internationally known philosopher, mathematician and educator, is generally regarded as one of the great minds of our time. The author aims to discuss Whitehead's philosophical theory and its educational thought on the paper, the focus is his educational thought. 1.The definition of education: Education is the acquisition of the art of the utilisation of knowledge. 2.The aims of education: What we should aim at producing is men who possess both culture and expert knowledge in some special direction. 3.The methods of education: Positively, Whitehead advocates "rhythm of education". He thinks that the growth of children's spirit have three stages: the first stage is "the stage of romance"; the second stage is "the stage of precision"; the third stage is "the stage of generalization". Negatively, Whitehead emphasize how to prevent dead knowledge or inert ideas. In order to prevent dead knowledge or inert ideas, Whitehead advocates two educational commandments, the first is "Do not teach too many subjects"; the second is "What you teach, teach thoroughly". |
