英文摘要 | Pakistan Research Reactor-1 (PARR-1) is a major facility for research and isotope production at Pakistan Instiute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH). The reactor was converted from 93% High Enriched Uranium (HEU) fuel to less than 20% Low Enriched Uranium (LEU), U訕i fuel and upgraded from 5 MW to 10 MW. After conversion and upgradation the reactor was made critical in October 1991 with new LEU fuel. The core configurations were assembled for critical and power operation of the reactor and a series of experiments were performed on each core configuration for the verification of design data, and to evaluate the nuclear performance of the new fuel. The first full power core configuration was achieved in May 1992 and the equilibrium core arrangement was made in February 1995 with a central flux trap facility. This facility has been introduced for the first time. For this reason various tests and measurements were conducted to evaluate the neutronic performance of the LEU core. The performance tests included reactivity measurements, neutron flux distribution in and around the core. In central flux trap special measurements were made to study the void coefficient of reactivity. Reactivity effect due to the movement of the voids in the central flux trap has demonstrated an interesting phenomena. The void coefficient of reactivity in the core has also been studied. In the central flux trap, the neutron flux is 5.6 times higher than the average neutron flux in the core, and about 3 times in the irradiation facility on the side of the core. The use of this facility will reduce the reactor operation time, resulting in fuel saving. A comparision with the previous measurements is also made. |
