英文摘要 | Measurements of backfat and bellyfat thickness are essential for the improvement of hog carcass characteristics. A total of 6,120 hogs varied with 81 to 86 cm carcass length was collected from four slaughter regions at Taoyuan, Changhua, Tainan and Pingtung during the period from August of 1993 to June of 1995. Backfat thickness at the first rib, the last rib, and the last lumbar vertebra, and belly fat thickness at the sternum, the belly button, and the groin were taken. Mean carcass weight was 88.8±8.2 kg. Skinless backfat thickness at the first rib (BF1), the last rib (BF2), and the last lumbar vertebra (BF3) were 3.50±0.48, 1.82±0.35 and 1.96±0.38 cm, respectively. Bellyfat thickness with skin at the sternum (BEF1), the belly button (BEF2), and the groin (BEF3) were 2.89±0.30, 3.21±0.31 and 4.15±0.38 cm, respectively. Coefficients of correlation between carcass weight to BF1, BF2 and BF3 were 0.41±0.05, 0.42±0.07 and 0.40±0.10, respectively. The relationships of carcass weight to BEF1, BEF2 and BEF3 were 0.15±0.10, 0.17±0.12 and 0.24±0.09, respectively. There varied from 0.65 to 0.83 of correlation coefficients among BF1, BF2 and BF3. There were 0.60 to 0.82 of correlation coefficients among BEF1, BEF2 and BEF3. Correlation coefficients between backfat and bellyfat thickness measurements varied from 0.15 to 0.27. In 58% of carcasses, backfat thickness at the last rib and at the last lumbar vertebra were 0.50 and 0.55 times, respectively, of the backfat thickness at the first rib. For bellyfat thickness, 67% of carcasses had BEF2/BEF1 = 1.1 and BEF3/BEF1 = 1.1. Almost none of hog carcasses had an even backfat or bellyfat thickness at the three positions measured. |
