英文摘要 | Traditional teaching of SUBJUNCTIVE MOOD and TENSES is, generally speaking, conducted by teachers' presentation of sentence patterns followed by detailed or comprehensive explanations of the patterns. Besides, teachers would more often than not demand that students should learn by heart all the patterns as well as the explanations. A lot of students, after learning and memorizing all the patterns, may still find it difficult to digest what they have learned, let alone know how to apply them. What is worse, their memory of these patterns never lasts for long before they can use them. These two units are therefore believed to be the ones that are'the toughest to memorize and the easiest to forget' and are the most frustrating topics for most students. There might be nothing wrong with teachers' teaching methods in conducting these grammatical units, but it would be worth our while checking up if our teaching techniques need revising or adapting. The following discussion is therefore designed to present an more workable approach to the teaching and learning of the two topics or units of English grammar--the SUBJUNCTIVE MOOD and the TENSES. Based on the principles of error analysis and contrastive analysis, our discussion is proceeded to observe students' error types, to investigate the differences between students' native language and target language, and to predict the interference that may occur between the two languages. Finally we end up our discussion with the formulation of two general rules for the subjunctive mood and the tenses respectively which, as we anticipate, will be of much help both to the teaching and the learning of these two grammatical units. |
