英文摘要 | Through various impressions and thoughts of various characters and commentary of the narrator, Mrs. Dalloway leads up to the final vision, "For there she was," as the reader reads along a single day in London. Virginia Woolf's voice and those of her characters mix together providing a unified view of not only English middle-class society, but also life in general. This blending of voices supplies the novel's ideology that people rely on each other for a sense of identity, whether they realize it or not. Not only do the styles of the voices blend, but also actual fragments of speech and knowledge. With Virginia Woolf herself as the guide, this common ground of speech provides a specific way of judgments and opinions the reader may follow. |
