中文摘要 | 本文以一正確的嘗試場函數藉由變分法計算平面波導之傳播常數。其結果與正確 的數值解相同。由此可知,只要適當地選擇嘗試場函數,變分法是非常簡單而且準確的。我 們選擇一個包含兩變數的嘗試場函數來計算不具有解析解之單模非均質平面波導的波傳特性 。其結果比 WKB 法準確,甚至在某些情況下比三變數之餘弦 -- 指數函數準確。 |
英文摘要 | The solutions of the scalar wave equation in the single-mode inhomogeneous planar optical waveguides and fibers are considered through the variational and steepest-descent approximation techniques. A comparison of numerical results between the two methods is presented. It is shown that the steepest-descent approximation technique can improve the form of the trial function for the modal field distribution directly but its accuracy is highly trial function dependent as that of the conventional variational method. Besides, the steepest-descent approximation which requires the trial function to be continuous at high-order derivative to perform its iterative procedures restricts the choice of trial fields. |
