| 英文摘要 | A correct trial field is used for the calculation of the propagation constant of the planar slab waveguide by variational method. The results agree completely with the exact numerical ones and show that the variational method is very simple and accurate if a judicious choice of the trial field can be found. We then use a single two-parameter trial field to solve the propagation characteristics of the single mode inhomogeneous planar waveguides with no analytical solutions available. The results are more accurate than the WKB method and even better than the three-parameter cosine-exponential (CE) trial field in some cases. |
