英文摘要 | In reviewing recent developments in information technologies including computers,software, telecommunications, electronic delivery, optical disk storage, hyper and multi-media,library roles fall into clear but often over-lapping stages: "Paper Library", "Automated Library","Networked Library", and now heading toward "Electronic Library", With "Virtual Library" Justover the horizon. The efforts of Ohio academic libraries to effectively incorporate information technology tomeet changing needs is both illustrative and instructive. These began with the establishmentof OCLC in the 1960s, its subsequent growth into a worldwide library network, thedevelopment of local library systems and networks in the 1970s and 1980s, and the formationof Ohio LINK in the 1990s. Focusing on Ohio LINK, the paper provides details on the origin of ther concept, planningprocess, service goals and benefits, implementation, special features, governance, finance, andthe road ahead. |
