英文摘要 | An empirical function, lnη=A+B/Tr, relates the viscosity of saturated liquids to the reduced temperature has been proposed to model literature data for hydrocarbons and alcohols. The models are developed for non-normal alkanes and non-normal alcohols utilizing the respective normal alkane and normal alcohol correlations as the reference system and a single characterizing factor, the normal boiling point or the effective carbon number, as the correlation variable. Both straight chain and branched-chain members of a homologous series are handled by the same relationship is one of the desirable features of a homologous series approach followed here. When tested against 753 points of pure liquid viscosity data for 35 hydrocarbons, our correlation gives an average absolute error of 9.540,10 compared to 8.75% for the van Velzen et al. correlation. For 216 points of liquid viscosity data for 15 alcohols, our correlation produces an average absolute error of 12.92% as opposed to 11.79 % for the van Velzeri et al. correlation. These comparisons show that the method described in this article is a good alternative for property predictions when normal boiling points are the only data available. |
