英文摘要 | The objective of the study reported here was to examine the relationships among the temperatures of lumber-core and kiln-air and moisture content changes, and to evaluate the feasibility of using the difference between lumber-core and kiln- air temperature as a guide for adjusting the drying conditions during conventional kiln drying. Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) and China-fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) lumber, 3cm and 5cm(T)×15cm(W)×150cm(L) were used for this study. Each group of the test boards was dried in an automatically controlled experimental kiln with individual moisture content drying schedule. The moisture content was calculated by weighing sample method, and the lumber core-temperature was measured and recorded continuously by an electronic recorder with thermocouple sensors. The results of this study show that: 1.It is feasible to use the temperature difference between lumber-core and kiln-air as quide for adjusting kiln conditions according to a moisture content drying schedule. 2.For 3cm and 5cm Mahogany, the dry- and wet-bulb temperatures can be adjusted in accordance with the kiln schedule when the core temperature of the lumber (sample) indicates 2℃ below the air temperature (dry-bulb temp.) in the kiln and maintained for about 20 hours; and when the core temperature indicates 0.5℃ below the maximum air temperature as listed in the schedule and maintained for about 10 to 20 hours, the average M. C. of the lumber is about 6 percent. 3.For 3cm China fir, the dry- and wet-bulb temperatures can be adjusted in accordance with the kiln schedule as the lumber core temperature indicates 1℃ below the air temperature; and when the core temperature indicates 0.5℃ below the maximum air temperature and maintained for about 10 hours, the average M. C. of the lumber is about 6 percent. 4.The results of 5cm China fir is the same as Maholgany with the exception of temperature difference for adjusting kiln conditions during the initial and middle stages is 1.5℃. 5.We are encouraged to recommend that it is necessary to make a further investigation on different species and thickness of some other commercial wood. |
