英文摘要 | An image analysis system was used to investigate the effects of fiber morphological properties and forming conditions on handsheet formation. Pulp stocks were prepared from Pinus taiwanensis, Eucalyptus grandis, and Acacia confusa. Handsheets were prepared at different forming conditions. The formation of the handsheets were then evaluated with the image analyser and pairwise visual ranking technique. Statistical analyses of the importance of each variable and interactions between variables were determined. It is already known from previous studies that handsheets prepared from the same pulp stock and forming condition showed a consistent linear relationship between gram-mage of the sheets and their light absorbance, and that sheets made from shorter fibers had better formations. For fibers of similar length, however, the more flexible ones gave better formations. Additional observations from this study include: 1.Slower drainage rates resulted in poorer sheet formation. 2.Increases in stock temperature, concentration, or settling time advsersely affected sheet formation. 3.Optimum microturbulence dispersed fiber flocs and improved sheet formation. Excessive or insufficient oscillation amplitude or time, however, created nonuniform sheets. 4.The assessment of a 2n full factorial experiment design indicated that fiber length is the most crucial parameter in paper formation, followed by settling time, stock concentration, and temperature. Setting time also had strong interactions with fiber length and stock concentration. 5.Among the four paper formation assessment methods, i.e., coefficient of variation (COV), varience (S2), M/K formation index (M/K FI), and modified all-pairs score (APS), the COV and look-through (modified APS) judgements are most affected by mean light absorbance. Under similar mean light absorbance conditions, all four methods gave similar results. |
