英文摘要 | This is a cross-sectional investigation of the acquisition of jokes by Mandarin-speaking children from three age groups: 5;0-5;11, 6;0-6;11, 7;0-7;11. Four simple jokes were adapted as stimuli. The data of joke understanding and joke appreciation were obtained from thirty six subjects by oral tests and behavioral observation. Allan's (1986) explanations for meaning and Dascal's (1985) viewpoints on language of jokes were combined as the linguistic framework, and the Piagetian theory (Ginsburg & Opper, 1969), especially concerned in reference-making, was used as the cognitive framework. The results offer three implications. First, the transition point of joke acquisition locates between the preoperational period and the concrete operational period. Second, the speeds of the development of joke understanding and joke appreciation match with each other. Third, the natural mirth response is an emotional appreciation of jokes, and the funniness rating is a cognitive evaluation of jokes. |
