中文摘要 | 在過去四十多年來,台灣英語教學一直都沿襲在大陸時代傳 統教學法,即所謂文法翻譯法(The Grammar-Translation Method),因受教學環境的種種限制,成效不著。 台灣學生,自初中一年級開始學習英語,經高中而大學、或 自習,將近十年苦讀,但大多數人仍然不敢開口說英語,更遑論 正確或順暢的使用英語了,這是學生在語言學習過程中,未能具 備聽、說、讀、寫的能力所致。 在最近二十年來,世界上陸續發展了許多新的語言教學方法 ,在英語教學上直接使用,其中尤以自然教學法(The Natural Approach)更令人矚目,且迭經試驗,獲得肯定的效果,為世界 上許多國家的英語教學計畫所採用,或經修改適用,效果顯著。 本文係根據自然教學法的五個基本假設,闡述其理論,介紹 其目標,並針對我國目前在台灣推展英語教學的環境與成效,提 出剖析與檢討,研究此一新的自然教學法如何在台灣適用,以改 進台灣英語教學的環境,提高學生學習英語的興趣和效果。 |
英文摘要 | For more than forty years, the teaching of English as a second/foreign language in Taiwan has been dominated by what is called the Grammar-Translation Method, a traditional teaching method adopted long before the Republic of China moved to its present island province of Taiwan. Most students of English in Taiwan, regardless of their long years of hardships and struggle in English learning since their junior high school years, can hardly manage to use the language properly and correctly. They are not well-equipped with good basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. During the two recent decades, many new teaching methodologies have been developed for immediate use in the classroom. Among them, the Natural Approach (NA) has been tested and proved with positive results, and it has been adapted or adopted by many TESOL programs in many different countries in the world. This paper shall present an overview of the NA theory based on the five basic hypotheses, introduce the NA goal, and recommend how the Approach will be easy to use in the present educational system in Taiwan. |
