英文摘要 | Total body fat, arm muscle circumference and arm muscle area were estimated from skinfold thickness and arm circumference, considered in conjunction with eight body measurements (head circumference, chest circumference, body length, crown-rump length, length of upper and lower arm, circumference of mid-thigh and-calf), in 38 premature and 60 term newborns. The mean age of measurement was 16.8±10.1hr. The total body fat, arm muscle circumference and arm muscle area in term, weight appropriate for gestational age (AGA), newborns were 311.47±131.69g(9.55±329%), 9.00±0.67cm, 6.47±0.98cm^2, respectively. They increased linearly with increasing birth weight and gestational age. The small for gestational age (SGA) infants had lower fat percentage, smaller muscle mass as compared to their AGA peers of the same gestational age, yet their fat percentage and muscle mass were comparable to their AGA peers of the same birth-weight group. Understanding body composition in premature and mature newborns is important to the assessment of their nutritional status. |
