| 英文摘要 | Objective: Enterobius vermicularis is the most common human intestinal parasite. E. vermicularis control among school children is an important issue of public health. The object of this research is to realize the present situation of E. vermicularis infection in school-aged children in Hualien. The administrative divisions in Hualien County include 13 districts. Among the 13 districts, 3 districts are in mountainous area while 10 districts are in rural/urban area. All the first and fourth grade students in elementary school in Hualien were selected to participate in the survey. For Enterobius egg examination, two-consecutive-day adhesive cellophane paper perianal swabs were used, and all examinations were done by certified medical technologists. Our results showed that overall egg positive rate was found to be 5.79% (452/7089) and 6.25% (457/7312) in 2007 and 2008, respectively. As compared to those reported from previous work in national average (ranged from 1.53 to 2.23 %), the prevalence of E. vermicularis in Hualien is relatively high. According to the geographical feature, the average infection rate is 17.80% (235/1320) in mountainous areas and 4.76% (827/17363) in the rural/urban areas, respectively. The prevalence in mountainous area is relatively high (χ^2 test, p<0.001). These results indicate that enterobiasis among school-aged children in Hualien, especially in mountainous area, is still remained an important parasitic disease. It is recommended that more effort on control of this parasite should be taken. |
