| 英文摘要 | This study explored the influence of language learning environments on the use of Japanese discourse connectives among advanced Taiwanese learners of Japanese. Two groups of learners were compared: learners studying Japanese as a foreign language (JFL), and those studying Japanese as a second language (JSL). To provide a benchmark, conversational data from native Japanese speakers in the I-JAS corpus were employed as reference. Through analysis of 30-minute interview transcripts, the study examined the frequency and types of discourse connectives (conjunctions and conjunctive particles) used by the participants in spontaneous conversation. The results indicated that the JFL group tended to use conjunctions with a stronger written language tone, such as そして, whereas the JSL group more frequently used expressions preferred by native speakers in spoken discourse, such as で. In terms of sentence-final conjunctive particles, the JSL group exhibited both higher frequency and greater diversity in their usage than did the JFL group, particularly in their use of けど, which closely resembled native speaker usage. By contrast, the JFL group relied more on conjunctions than on conjunctive particles to link discourse. Notably, the conjunctive particle たり was infrequently used by either group. This study confirmed that language learning environments influence the use of discourse connectives, particularly in the use of conjunctive particles in conversation. The acquisition of discourse connectives is affected not only by the amount of language input and opportunities for interaction but also by the development of conversational strategies. On the basis of these findings, this study recommends that Japanese language instruction should place greater emphasis on discourse connectives to enhance learners’ coherence and naturalness in conversation. |
