| 英文摘要 | American novelist Bernard Malamud’s The Fixer unfolds some interesting phenomena/themes including postmodernism, atheism, power and resistance, humanistic persistence, naturalism, migrating identity, irrationality, etc. The "human condition" illustrated in Bernard Malamud’s The Fixer is a fragmental, strange, miserable and crazy world; it seems it is always dripping something-blood, brain or sweat. The hero Yakov is a fixer, leaving his hometown of prison-like Shtetl to seek big chances in the big foreign city of Kiev, but only ends up in the real prison for the murder he never committed. The fixer is really humorous, direct and humble in his simple remark, "I fix what’s broken—except in the heart." However on the other hand, despite all the rationality, stupidity, or absurdity found in the novel, despite the literally or figuratively bloodstained or brainless tragedies, actually, in his way of self-preservation and self-liberation, Yakov has learned to be a man of action, subverted the history, and triumphantly "fixed" the Tsar’s heart once and for all. Though toward the end, the Jewish fixer is still not fixed; he is in his carriage wobbling toward his dangling trial and fate. |
