| 英文摘要 | The popularity of Internet literature has surged among the general public. Bahamut is an online forum that provides comprehensive information on various forms of entertainment, including toys, novels, movies, and video games. The present study investigated the reading patterns of Taiwanese individuals who frequent the Bahamut platform, focusing on their preferences, behaviors, motivations, and habits in reading Internet literature. The target population for this study was users of Bahamut's gaming information site who engage with Internet literature. The study revealed that a preference for Japanese fantasy literature was predominant among Bahamut users. Approximately one-third of the respondents had been exposed to adaptations of these novels in the form of animation, movies, comics, or games before reading the original text. In the surveyed sample, 93% of the participants used smartphones for reading online literature. Reading typically occurred on weekday evenings, with the majority of respondents spending between 31 min and 1 h per reading session. Of the respondents, 70.24% expressed a willingness to purchase paperback versions of novels if they found the plot compelling. When providing responses regarding their motivation for reading, the majority strongly agreed with the statements that "reading is important" and that "reading can relax the mind and improve the results of work or study." Most respondents confirmed having a well-established reading habit. Over half reported that their engagement with Internet literature had led them to devote more time to reading than they had previously devoted to reading paperback novels. Their transition to reading Internet literature made it easier for them to maintain consistent reading habits and expanded the range and number of novels they read. However, a portion of participants indicated that they had ceased reading paperback novels due to the convenience offered by digital formats. With respect to reading focus, the respondents believed they were more concentrated when reading paperback novels compared with when they were reading Internet literature. The convenience of Internet literature often led to multitasking. When asked to choose between the digital and paperback formats for the same novel, 48% expressed no preference, emphasizing that the quality of the content was more important than the medium used for delivery. In summary, this study identified an increase in both the volume and variety of reading among the respondents after their exposure to Internet literature, which positively influenced their reading habits. The majority of the participants were men, were aged between 21 and 30 years, and were residing in Taiwan-characteristics that align with the general profile of Bahamut's user base. |
