英文摘要 | Jacques Derrida's Deconstruction is an approach to understanding the relationship between text and meaning. It is mainly taking inspiration from the work of Ferdinand de Saussure, whose thought forms the central tenets of structural linguistics, which presents language as a system of signs and words. The purpose of deconstruction is to show that the usage of language in a given text, and language as a whole, are irreducibly complex, unstable, or impossible. As a prominent Mahayana Zen School, The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra presents a systematic epistemology of the role of language, which is seen as barriers to self-realization and productive of attachment to the unreal world of objects with its accompanying suffering. The role of language is claimed as an obstacle to enlightenment. The sutra suggests that the practitioners should free themselves from the linguistically constructed reality of this world, yet they should have to wisely know how to use language as a tool to promote Dharma. My study intends to make a comparative study of The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra and Derrida's Deconstruction on their Philosophies of Language. Both present a critical dismantling of tradition and traditional modes of thoughts of the usages of language and defies institutionalization in an authoritative definition. |
