中文摘要 | 本研究旨在探討台灣大學生,以英文表達請求,是否有不適切的表達,或有 語用轉移的情形。資料蒐集來自於問卷調查與訪談。研究發現有些台灣大學生將 其母語表達的方式,直接使用於英文,造成有語用轉移的情形,其中包括有禮貌 用語、稱謂敬語等。例如:母語習慣用語“借”廁所,直接使用於英文,造成不 適切的語用轉移。此外,有些台灣大學生在表達請求時,傾向於使用外在修飾語, 會先解釋原因。反之,美國大學生通常傾向於先表達請求,再說明原因。其次對 於居上位者的稱謂,台灣大學生也會使用一些敬語,例如稱呼老闆等,反應出受 到母語禮貌用語表達的影響。研究並且發現親疏遠近,地位階層等因素,也會影 響所採用的請求策略。此研究可進一步提供語言教學與教科書設計的參考。 |
英文摘要 | This study explores whether Taiwanese EFL learners transfer their native language to the target language, showing pragmatic transfer. The data were collected through a written questionnaire and interviews. Descriptive analysis was used to study the requests used by participants based on different situations. The findings show that learners transfer their first language pragmatic patterns, including L1 transfer, supportive moves and address forms. Some Taiwanese EFL learners tended to use “borrow your toilet” in the bathroom situation reflecting the use of conventional expressions used by the first language. In addition, Some Taiwanese participants used external modifications such as reasons before making a request. American native speakers tended to make requests and then offered explanations in situations such as noise. Moreover, Taiwanese participants tended to use “boss,” and “manager,” to show their politeness to the person who is superior to them. Americans were not found to use this addressee terms. The findings suggest that social distance, power, and degree of imposition between the interlocutors appear to affect the choice of request strategies. This study can provide insight into how learners make requests across cultures as well as aid in the design of textbooks. |
