英文摘要 | The purpose of this study was to analyze the health checkup of freshmen in a university in central Taiwan, and to know their health status and establish their basic health information. A total of 7,923 students (5,586 men) were included in this study from 2005~2008. The results showed that the mean body mass index of the freshman was 22.15±4.16 kg/m^2, with 22.71±4.27 kg/m^2 for males and 20.80±3.54 kg/m^2 for females. The prevalence of obesity was 12.2%, male students was significantly greater than female (14.5% vs. 6.4%). The prevalence of hypertension was 14.6%, male students was significantly greater than female (18.5% vs. 5.2%). Of the freshmen, 1.7% were classified as hypercholesterolemia, and 8.1% were anemic, and 6.4% and 12.2% of male and female students, respectively. The serum creatinine level was higher in male students than female students. A abnormal serum alanine aminotransferase level was also observed for 10.1% of the subjects (12.9% of males and 3.3% of females). From a hepatitis-B survey, 2.9% of the subjects were shown to be hepatitis-B carriers. 36.1% of the freshmen revealed hyperuricemia, 44.2% in males and 16.2% in females, the male students was significant higher than females. The level of blood pressure, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, uric acid, creatinine and cholesterol were increased with increasing BMI. The freshmen particularly male subjects, are prone to the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Appropriate intervention as regards health education and life-style modification appears to be warranted in college freshman. We hope the result of this study will provide basic information for further studies on the epidemiology of health status in college students. |
