英文摘要 | Objective: the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of age and gender on the recognition of facial expressions of emotion and the perception of emotional intensity in an effort so better understand the performance of patients with Aspeger's disorder (AD). Method: Five hundred and seventy-one healthy individuals and 14 patients diagnosed with AD viewed an array of facial photographs with different emotional expressions and were asked to categorize the emotions and rate their intensity. Results: Recognition of anger sadness, disgust, and fear by children, recognition of sadness by adolescents, and recognition of surprise, disgust, and fear the elderly was less accurate than the recognition of these emotions by adults, Females were better than males in the recognition of happiness, sadness, surprise, disgust, and fearful facial expressions, No significant gender eff e c were evident in the perception of emotional intensity, The perception of photographs of happiness was rated more intensely in children, but photographs of sadness were considered less intense. In the elderly, anger was rated more intensely than in the other age groups. Recognition of facial expressions by AD patients was less accurate than in the general population, especially expressions of surprise. Conclusion: The accuracy of recognition of facial expressions increased with age, but decreased in the elderly. The ability to recognize facial expressions was better in females than in males, but this gender effect did not apply to the perception of emotional intensity. The performance results in AD patients as detailed herein support the clinical utility of photographs of facial expressions as an assessment tool. |
