中文摘要 | 本研究主要著重於描述及探討臺灣與日本兩地大學英語學習者經由即時討論和電腦視訊會議達到英語文交流的情形。這項計畫的主要目的在於瞭解臺灣英語學習者對於即時遠距學習的反應,並探討連線過程所遇到的硬體應用與跨文化溝通等問題。資料蒐集包含學生於連線後所填之問卷、電腦視訊會議記錄、研究者於連線過程中之觀察記錄、參與學生之報告及學生接受訪談內容。研究結果顯示:(1)透過電腦視訊會議和即時討論與非英語系國家學生作文交流對於臺灣學生學習英語有正面的助益。(2)電腦視訊也讓學生比用純文字溝通更有真實感。(3)在連線過程中學生總共使用了十種溝通策略來完成老師指定的連線活動。(4)在學習期間,日本學生的表現偏向工作取向,而臺灣學生較為社會取向。根據上述結果,本研究可以作為未來連線學習之改進參考,並提供未來研究之方向。 |
英文摘要 | This research investigates a telecommunications project involving Taiwanese English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners and Japanese EFL learners, where they practiced the English language and discussed cultural information through synchronous chat and desktop videoconferencing. The purpose of this study is to understand the Taiwanese EFL learners' perceptions of language learning through synchronous distance technologies, and to explore their experiences and intercultural communication issues during the connections. Data sources include post-connection surveys, desktop videoconference records, the researcher's observation notes, participants' reflective papers, and interview transcripts. The results show that the Taiwanese participants were positive in using desktop videoconference technology and chat to practice English with non-native speakers. They felt that the video visuals provided then with a sense of security in connecting with their chatmates. They also used ten communication strategies to complete the assigned tasks and solve problems. Even though the participants were from Asia, the Japanese students were revealed to be more task-oriented while the Taiwanese students were more socially-oriented. Finally, areas for improvement in future connections and implications of the research are noted. |
