中文摘要 | 「反問句」是我們日常生活中極為普遍的言談策略,在結構上是提問句的(interrogative)形式,但是其語言作用則是強烈的斷言(assertion),一般來說,並不期待聽話者的回應。一個肯定的問句卻表示一個強烈的否定斷言,而一個否定的問句則表示肯定的斷言。 而反問句究竟有哪些形式,所代表的功能是否都相同?反問句在人際關係使用層面,是否有所限定?為了進一步了解漢語「反問句」的特性、類型及功能,筆者將進行的研究分為四大部分:一、反問句有哪些形式。二、如何判定是反問句,也就是反問句是否有語法上的特徵。三、為什麼聽話者可以理解為反問句而不是疑問句,反問句在話語的連貫上有何標記,足以讓聽話者確定是反問而不是疑問,四、為什麼要用反問句的形式表達陳述功能,而不直接使用否定句式,在語用層面,反問句有何隱含意義,而反問句又有什麼功能。但是本篇論文限於篇幅,僅將筆者碩士論文節選部份發表。 |
英文摘要 | Rhetorical questions are a very common discourse strategy in everday speech. In structure, a rhetorical question takes the form of an interrogative sentence. However, its linguistic function is that of an emphatic assertion. Generally speaking, a reply or answer is not expected from the listener. An affirmative rhetorical question expresses a strong negative assertion, while a negative rhetorical question expresses an affirmative assertion. What forms do rhetorical questions take? What are the functions represented by these forms? Are there factors which prescribe the use of rhetorical questions in linguistic interactions? To gain a better understanding of the characteristics, categories and functions of the rhetorical question in Standard Mandarin Chinese, my research is divided into four parts: 1. Different structures of rhetorical questions. 2. Determining what constitutes a rhetorical question, whether or not there are inherent grammatical characteristics. 3. Why does the addressee interpret the utterance as a rhetorical question and not an interrogative sentence? How are rhetorical questions marked in the utterance to insure the utterance is coherent, while assuring the addressee is able to interpret the utterance as a rhetorical question and not an interrogative sentence? 4. Why are rhetorical question forms, as opposed to negative statements, employed to express the function of statements? What are the implicit implications of using rhetorical question forms, and what exactly is the function of a rhetorical question? The scope of this paper shall be limited to a portion of research extracted from the researcher's M.A. thesis. |
