英文摘要 | Annotations are the notes a reader makes to himself/herself. Online Annotations is one of the applications of CMC, and can provide synchronous and asynchronous collaboration among groups of EFL readers. With online annotations, readers are no longer limited to viewing content passively on the Web, but are free to add and share commentary and links, thus transforming the Web into an interactive medium for EFL reading. According to our literature review, online annotations may facilitate language learning. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the impact of online annotations on EFL reading processes and comprehension. Besides, the online annotation systems that may enable EFL students to share, catalogue, and search annotations need to be developed. This study has two goals: (1) developing a prototype online annotation system (AnCoRead) based on the results of surveying related annotation systems and related studies, and (2) examining the effects of online annotations on students' reading comprehension. Students' attitudes toward using this system for collaborative reading were also studied. Results show that: (1) AnCoRead raised students' interests and motivation toward online reading, and (2) the group with “annotation sharing” feature had higher scores on recall protocols and recalled more idea units with more importance. |
