英文摘要 | In this cross-sectional study, we examined the association between hyperuricemia and body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, blood sugar, total cholesterol, triglyceride, liver and kidney functions. Subjects were residents attending a physical check-up program in a medical center in southern Taiwan from January to June in 2002. A total of 2345 subjects, including 1345 (57.4%) male and 1000 (42.6%) female, with an average age of 49, were included in the analysis. The results showed that the prevalence of hyperuricemia among men was 35.6%, significantly higher than that of the women (25.7%). The results of chi-square analysis showed that hyperuricemia was associated with gender, age, blood pressure, BMI, liver function, kidney function, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and blood sugar before meal. The results of multiple logistic regression revealed that hyperuricemia was independently associated with sex, obesity, kidney and liver functions, and triglyceride level. We suggest healthcare providers emphasizing the importance of regular physical check-up to the public. For those with hyperuricemia, dietary modification and proper control of weight and blood pressure are advised to prevent the occurrence of chronic diseases. |
