英文摘要 | High-rise syndrome (HRS) is the term used to descirbe the traumatic injuries occurred in animals falling from height, particularly form high-rise apartment buildings. The major injuries include thoracic trauma, limb fractures, shock, hard palate fractures, and dental fractures. This report describes a 16-month-old female domestic shorthaired cat which fell from the 10th story of a building and resulted in temporomandibular joint ankylosis. The traumatic injuries caused by the falling from height included hemorrhage in the oral cavity, pale buccal mucous membrane, mandibular deviation, mandibular symphyseal separation, and hard palate fracture. The cat recovered after the treatment with intravenous fluid therapy and the wire cerclage fixation for symphyseal separation. However, the cat began to have the difficulty with ingestion 2 months after the accident. It was unable to open its mouth in the following 2 weeks. Radiographically, the right temporomandibular joint reveated the irregular-shaped, radiopaque material, and the articular deformity. The cat died of malnutrition because of the inability of eating. In gross pathology, the marked deformity and osteophytosis were seen in the condyloid process and the vertical ramus of the right mandible, the zygomatic process and mandibular fossa of the right temporal bone. The mild deformity was also noted in the left mandibular vertical ramus, and the zygomatic process and mandibular fossa of the left temporal bone. |
