英文摘要 | The effect of cefodizime on diabetic neutrophil function was demonstrated through chemotactic index. Non-insulin dependent diabetic patients with poor control (mean postprandial glucose values higher than 250 mg/dl) as well as their age- and sex-matched healthy controls were participated in this study (n=6). Chemotactic index was arrived at by finding the difference between the number of cells attracted by fMLP and the number of cells not exposed to fMLP, then dividing this difference by the number of cells not exposed to fMLP. Without cefodizime treatment, it was revealed that chemotactic index for diabetic neutrophils was significantly lower than that for healthy controls (1.0±0.1 vs 3.6±0.7, p<0.01). When neutrophils were pretreated with cefodizime at 1μg/ml cefodizime restored the chemotactic activity for diabetic neutrophils (1.0±0.1 vs 2.7±0.3, p<0.01) but did not affect that for healthy controls. On the other hand, cefodizime at higher concentration (100μg/ml) had no enhancing effect on diabetic neutrophil chemotaxis, but decreased the chemotactic activity of healthy neutrophils (3.6±0.7 vs 1.1±0.2, p<0.01). This study indicates that cefodizime at the level of 1μg/ml can improve diabetic neutrophil function through the enhancement of chemotaxis, suggesting that cefodizime is not only an antibiotic but also a potential immunomodulator. |
