英文摘要 | Conveying messages by means of speaking and writing is the main purpose of learning foreign languages. Oral communication, direct and responsive, has become the chief concern for many young EFL learners. To satisfy the needs of learners, classes focusing on the development of oral language skills and interpersonal communication skills have become widespread. It is challenging, however, to teach oral communication to a large class with varying levels of English proficiency. This article proposes two advance organizers.....pictorial context and key vocabulary, to lessen learners' learning anxiety and to make the learning process more enjoyable and profitable. The teaching procedures outlined here provide a systematic method to motivate learners to express ideas confidently and bravely. The effectiveness of these two advance organizers to enhance oral language skills will be investigated through an open-ended questionnaire and students' oral descriptions of the same picture before and after applying advance organizers. The results revealed that students felt more confident and less nervous when required to speak English. Low-level students, though producing shorter and simpler sentences, used less Chinese in classroom discussions. High-level students tried to produce more complicated and appropriate sentences and gave more detailed and graphic descriptions. The study results testify that the use of advance organizers is effective in teaching oral English to EFL students. |
