英文摘要 | This study is concerned with the prevalence of feline immunodeficiency virus-like lentivirus (FIV-like lentivirus) infection in Taipei City Zoo. Forty four serum samples from nine wild felids, including a Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris), African lion (Panthera leo), clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), lynx (Lynx lynx), puma (Felis concolor), bobcat (Lynx rufus), Chinese leopard cat (Felis p. bengalensis) . leopard (Panthera pardus) , and ocelot(Leopardus pardalis), were evaluated for antibodies against antigen derived from a domestic cat FIV by a commercial ELISA kit, immunofluorescence assay, and western blot. Antibodies to FIV were detected from three African lions that included a lioness and its two offspring. No clinical signs were observed in these infected animals. Results obtained from the commercial ELISA kit corresponded to those of the western blot, suggesting that the commercial kit is suitable for early screening of the FIV-like lentivirus infection in wild felids. This survey provides evidence of an FIV-like lentivirus infection in the lion species in Taipei City Zoo. Routine monitoring of the FIV-like lentivirus may be necessary for the management and movement of wild felids in the zoo. |
