英文摘要 | The surface topographic feature of the chaikang area, southwestern Taiwan is an alluvial plain with minor relief. Within an identifiable depth of nearly 400m, high-resolution seismic profiles show that the shallow strata here are all horizontal, concordant with the surface topography. The strata remain virtually undisturbed since their deposition. Carbon 14 ages show that the shallow sediments are of late Quaternary. It has been reported that the late Cenozoic arc-continent collision not only induced Penglai Orogeny in the Central Range and the Western Foothills but also the new Taiwan Orogeny along the Taiwan Strait coastline. It has also been reported that this area has been subjected to rapid late Quaternary subsidence (tectonic activity). On the other hand, the current seismic evidence however shows that little near-surface post-sedimentation deformation appears in late Quaternary beds in this area. |
