| 英文摘要 | Our paleostrain and paleostress studies based on computer calculation and inversion of calcite twin data from limestone formations in the frontal portion of the western Taiwan fold-thrust belt demonstrate that twinning in calcite records complex recent and present-day strain and stress fields in the foreland of the active Taiwan mountain belt. The strain magnitude of calcite twins is typically less than 6%, decreasing southward in response to the southward-decreasing age of the limestones. High negative expected values indicate that the reefal limestones in the Tainan, Kaohsiung and Hengchun regions exhibit a monophase, inhomogeneous strain. The maximum shortening direction in the country rocks is characteristically layer-parallel and regional transport-parallel, whereas two orthogonal directions of the maximum shortening in the veins reflect, on the one hand, the regional compression where tilting occurred (non-layer-parallel), and, on the other, local extension due to bending of limestones at thrust ramps or fold hinges. The stress regimes reconstructed from the calcite petrofabric are predominantly compressional, reflecting the main stage of neotectonic evolution of the collision zone. The stress tensors computed from Miocene-Pleistocene limestones reveal an association of NW-SE and E-W compressional trends, as a result of dispersion of the main N130°E compression in complex folded-faulted blocks of western Taiwan. The inferred directions of compression are closely related to the recent kinematics of the Philippine Sea plate relative to Eurasia. |
