英文摘要 | Background: Noise is one of the hazardous factors causing hearing loss. People may have the risk of hearing impairment in a noisy environment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk of noise-induced hearing loss in students and teachers who had long-duration exposure to noise from heavy train traffic. Methods: According to the level of noise exposure, students and teachers at Taipei Municipal Da-Lee elementary school were divided into a noise exposure group and a non-noise exposure group. Three hundred subjects, including 120 from the noise exposure group and 180 from the non-noise exposure group, were enrolled to undergo pure tone audiometry. A questionaire was used to evaluate the clinical manifestations for every individual in these groups. Results: Most audiograms of persons with abnormal hearing showed a 4k dip or high frequency loss. The clinical symptoms included tinnitus and subjective hearing impairment. In addition, there was no significant difference in hearing loss induced by railroad noise between the noise exposure group and the non-noise exposure group. In the noise exposure group, students with normal hearing showed a higher threshold level than that of the non-noise exposure group. Conclusions: Despite of the non-significant result of this study. we should pay more attention to the influence of railroad noise on hearing over the long term. The hearing levels of students and teachers in a noisy environment caused by heavy train traffic should be checked annually, thereby preventing the possibility of hearing impairment. |
