| 英文摘要 | One of the major issues between the two editions of the Geologic Map of Taiwan is whether the Chuochi Transverse Fault (CTF) exists in the Tananao Schist terrain. Through the present detailed geologic mapping; CTF has been verified by the abrupt discontinuity of a 500 m thick spotted politic schist, a key bed in the Yuli Belt. Besides, the Fault can also be recognized from a straight lineament on an air-photo. The vertical CTF strikes roughly NW-SE in the present study area. From the stratal distribution, especially of the spotted politic schist, we estimate that (1) its horizontal displacement is mainly left-lateral; (2) its northeastern block moved up relative to its southwestern one; (3) its strike separation along CTF is at least 7 km; (4) its vertical separation is about 3.5 km; and (5) its range of the net slip is presumably about 2.5~4.5 km. The considerably large vertical component of the net slip estimation based on the presence of geologic discontinuities implies that CTF might have moved left-laterally prior to Eocene, and then was re-activated during the Plio-Pleistocene Penglai Orogeny forming the present geologic configuration. Besides, the scope and sense of CTF movements are at large consistent with the movements of the Philippine Sea Plate against the Asia Plate and subsequent exhumation of the Central Range since Plio- Pleistocene time. CTF represents one way of expression of the collision kinematics, the contemporaneous extension structures in the course of compression. |
