英文摘要 | Caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) is one kind of chronic wasting disease, which causes great financial loss in dairy goat industry. The disease has been spread worldwide including Taiwan. In this experiment we used follow-up study, serological surveillance, and heated milk experiment to elucidate the transmission routes. Moreover, the strategy of heated colostrum to inactivated virus and blockade of the horizontal transmission was used to control CAE virus infection. In high CAE prevalent dairy farms, there were about 33.3% of goats showing seroconversion after they were raised with CAE positive goats for 8-10 months. We could not detect CAE antibody from neonate kids in CAE virus infected flocks. Moreover, there was no significant relationship between CAE virus infection and the gender with CAE positive ram. CAE virus in colostrum could be inactivated after heating at 56 ℃ for an hour. in vitro. Using heated colostrum to feed neonate kids could greatly reduce the infection to 13.6-25.6% on the age of 6-9 months, whilst the infection of kids might reach to 81-100%, if they were fed with untreated colostrum. These results strongly suggested that the strategy of heating colostrum and segregating kids from their dams could efficiently prevent CAE virus infection. |
